HANOI SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH - TROPED COLLABORATION

 


Overview

Originally established in 1976 as School of Health Administrators, the Hanoi School of Public Health - HSPH (equivalent Vietnamese official name "University of Public Health") is a stand-alone, first and only university in the area of Public Health training in  Vietnam. It is a public university, belongs to both Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam. Since 1996, HSPH started providing Master of Public Health training. Starting from 2002, the School offered Bachelor degree of Public Health as well. In 2005, HSPH started offering also PhD in Public Health. The HSPH officially joined TropEd in May 2008 as a collaborating member (the first and only in Vietnam). The official website of the School: www.hsph.edu.vn

 

Faculty and Staff

HSPH has more than 150 full-time staff, of which about a hundred are academic staff, provide training, research and consultancy services to more than a thousand full-time, part-time/ in service students in campus as well as other students in many different provinces of Vietnam in almost all geographic regions, including Mekong-river-delta in the southern part of the country. In addition to that, HSPH faculty members also provide technical support to the Ministry of Health, provincial health offices, many government agencies, NGOs and international partners, Vietnam Public Health Association network, and many others. More than half of the academic staff were trained oversea for graduate degrees, mainly in the USA, UK, the Netherlands, Australia, etc.

 

Facilities

HSPH offers the students all facilities at the current downtown campus at 138 Giang Vo street, located in Ba Dinh district, less than 5 km away from the capital city center. This campus is next door to the Ministry of Health, very close to many historic sites (such as the Temple of Literature, 5-10 minutes by taxi), museums, hotels, supermarkets, big hospital, many good restaurants offering both Vietnamese/Asian cuisines as well as western dishes.

The dormitory has rooms for international students, and budget hotels within 10 minutes walking distance are also available nearby. Training rooms, library and computer labs are available for open access for all students upon request. In most areas, wireless Internet access is available in the campus. HSPH registered students also have access to many on-line resources and free full-text scientific articles through HSPH library website.

HSPH is also coordinating training and research projects at different scales in some other strategic field sites, such as CHILILAB and Da Nang city, please see further details in "Research Opportunities", in addition to more than 15 districts in the northern part of Vietnam - where more than 50 Master students came to conduct field studies and practices every year.
